Did you know that...
The Municipal Library was built in the 1920s and is one of the most important buildings in Prague. The architecture is characterised not only by a combination of modern lines and classicism, but also by rich figural decoration and ornamental paintings. An interesting feature is the large official residence of the Lord Mayor of Prague in Art Deco style. The library was conceived as a cultural centre and today offers a program full of lectures, concerts, and temporary exhibitions. These take place in the gallery, which is located on the second floor of a building with a separate entrance.
The Municipal Library on Mariánské náměstí was built in 1925–1928 based on the project of architect František Roith. The building was conceived as a cultural institution with a broad range of uses, including exhibition, lecture and concert halls.
