Troja Chateau is located right next to the Prague Zoo and is considered one of the most beautiful Baroque monuments in Bohemia. The building, inspired by magnificent Italian villas, was built in the 17th Century and is unique for the monumental frescos and sculptural decoration of its immense halls. The entire chateau is surrounded by an elaborate French park. The halls of the chateau are used for concerts and temporary exhibitions. From April to September, a steamboat departs to the chateau from the Rašín Embankment (Rašínovo nábřeží), a fun alternative to public transport.
Jean Baptiste Mathey, a French architect, designed the chateau. The dominant feature of the entire building is a large hall, from which a corridor with an enfilade of adjacent salons runs to both sides. On the sides, the building is terminated vertically and horizontally by two-story tower-shaped belvederes. The chateau is surrounded by an extensive French garden decorated with terracotta vases, stucco backdrops, and orangeries with busts of emperors.
