The Štefánik Observatory is located near the Petřín Lookout Tower and is the oldest observatory in Prague. It offers a plethora of activities, including observing the day and night sky throughout the year, private tours and screenings of astronomy-related documentary films. The interior includes a permanent exhibition with interactive exhibits. The observatory can be reached via a scenic cable car or a pleasant walk through the large park.
Two observation points, the west dome and the main dome, are open to the public. The western dome houses a modern Maksutov Cassegrain mirror telescope. Its optics allow you to observe planets, binaries, star clusters, nebulae and distant galaxies. In clear weather visitors to the observatory can observe the Sun and its sunspots, and sometimes the planet Venus.
