Did you know that...
The unique setting of the Minorite Monastery is open to the public not only for sightseeing, but also serves as a cultural, social, and business venue. Founded shortly after 1232, the monastery flourished under the patronage of ruling dynasties in the 13th and 14th centuries. Over time, it has undergone several reconstructions. Today, only part of the once-extensive complex remains. The buildings are arranged around a rectangular courtyard and feature a blend of architectural styles, from Gothic to High Baroque. One of the highlights is the Angel’s Garden (Hortus Angelicus), a beautiful herbal garden named after Angelo, a renowned Florentine herbalist who held a prestigious position at the court of Emperor Charles IV (1316–1378). In 1360, Angelo established an elaborate botanical garden and became the official court pharmacist to Charles IV and his son Wenceslas.
