Did you know that...
The Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace is an extensive four-winged building constructed on Romanesque and Gothic foundations. Today, it offers visitors an impressive glimpse into Baroque and Rococo architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries and an opportunity to explore the representative spaces of a former aristocratic residence. One of its most striking features is the Baroque ballroom with its unique fresco decoration. The palace also served as one of the filming locations for the famous film Amadeus, directed by Miloš Forman.
The visitor route opens up the representative rooms and introduces visitors to the history and architecture of the palace, as well as to its social and cultural life in the past. Along fifteen stops, visitors can discover architectural details, artistic decoration and traces of the different periods that have shaped the palace over the centuries. Parts of the interior have survived in an authentic state, adding to the unique atmosphere of the visit.
After the Second World War, the palace was used by the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. Today, in addition to the visitor route, it also hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, creating an intriguing dialogue between the historic interiors and contemporary artistic expression.
TIP: Don’t forget that the Church of St Francis of Assisi is also nearby.
